Llandigige Fawr CL is a 2.5 acre certificated location site based on a working farm, under 5 miles East from the historic town of St. Davids in Pembrokeshire. Llandigige Fawr is also conveniently located for visiting some of Pembrokeshire’s most stunning locations along the Wales Coast path including the famous Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy, Whitesands bay and Newgale. If you are interested in watersports, hiking, and the outdoors then this is a superb location as a base for your next Pembrokeshire adventure. If you are willing to travel a bit further during the day then you can reach the town of Broad haven, Martins Haven (for boat access to Skomer island) and Marloes sands all within about an hour’s drive. Outside of St. Davids the two nearest large towns are North East to Fishguard or South East to Haverfordwest.
The beauty of staying at CL sites is that they have a maximum occupancy of 5 units (vans/motorhomes or caravans) so offer an alternative, more relaxed stay than larger sites.
You can access Llandigige Fawr from a road to the North or South of the site. The road from the North is much shorter and presents easier access into the CL as you can drive straight in, the entrance will be on your left coming from this direction. We drove in from the South which included some tight corners and a longer drive on narrow lanes. On arriving at the CL the entrance is a very sharp right from this direction – we had to do a 3 point turn to swing in from this direction but there is plenty of space to do this. Once you’ve made the initial entrance the track is wide and straight and opens up into a large field.
All of the facilities for the site are on your left as you drive in past the barn. The field itself is an incredibly well-mown lawn in an L shape, around some longer grass which we imagine would be a meadow at different times of year to the center. We really liked the setup here as we had loads of space between the pitches and none of the vans were overlooking each other. At the time we stayed here the site was at capacity of 5 units and it still felt incredibly spacious and quiet.
We spent our first-afternoon basking in the Welsh sunshine and chatting to our new neighbours about vans, equipment, where they were from and their favourite locations. It was really nice being able to mix with a wide variety of people on such a small site. Despite the differences in vans, motorhomes and ages everyone was just out to enjoy themselves and the natural surroundings.
To the side of the barn near the entrance, you will find a freshwater tap, a chemical toilet empty point (into an actual outside toilet), recycling bins, general waste and a separate unit with an individual toilet and shower inside. Both the toilet and shower were immaculate on our visit. Each pitch has access to an electrical hookup, these are spread around the edge of the field and each post was shared and had 2 connections on it.
During our visit we took the van out first thing in the morning to explore the local area. We visited Porthclais, Whitesands, St Davids, Abereiddyy and Porthgain during our stay. The couple parked next to us in the CL were using their bikes to get around and also managed to do a circular loop to St Davids and Whitesands which they said was really enjoyable.
Because Llandigige Fawr CL is set in a rural location, surrounded by fields and farm land the roads/tracks leading to the site were fine for walking on with the dogs. It’s also worth noting how incredibly quiet the site is, with very little passing traffic at any time of day. One evening we did a nice circular walk which took around an hour along the Wales coast path. You can head North from the site to the main road and take a left, walk along the main road for a bit and then take the first right at the signs for camping. This then takes you towards the sea and if following the coast path to the right, you end up at Abereiddy.
For two days we left early and parked at the beach in Abereiddy, this is home to the famous Blue Lagoon which hosts the Red Bull cliff diving competitions. The car park filled up quite early each day so if you want a front row parking space it’s worth the 10 minute drive first thing in the morning to secure one. The price for the day was £4 for the van. Abereiddy is a fantastic location for a variety of reasons. The water here is incredibly clean and clear. After spending one afternoon jumping from the old quarry into the blue lagoon we swam back to the beach along the bottom of the cliffs. Like many others, we also used our stand up paddle boards from the beach. If you like to swim, paddle board or kayak then this is a fantastic location to visit. If staying dry is more your thing you can enjoy the 4 mile (out and back) walk to Porthgain along the Wales coast path which has a small variety of places to grab a drink or some food. There are also public toilets here.
Unfortunately, after 3 days of sunshine, we awoke to gale force winds and rain on our last day. We must have unknowingly picked a good side of the CL because our van was quite sheltered allowing us to have a lie in after a few early starts. We really enjoyed our stay at Llandigige Fawr CL, for us the size of the site and its location are 10/10 for us. We love that the site is set in a rural location and just a short drive away from the nearest town. Other than a badger one evening and a hedgehog the next, we didn’t hear or see a soul past sunset. We’ve got a lot of friends who would equally enjoy the easy access to the blue lagoon at Abereiddy and Newgale beach from here for watersports so will definitely be recommending it, and would absolutely return.
